PATIENTS

  • Is recommended to assist with comfortable clothes.
  • If your appointment is regarding a hip, knee or ankle injury, wear shorts or bring a pair of shorts to change in the office.
  • If your appointment is regarding your shoulder, bring a sports bra or bring one to wear in the office. An important part of the physical exam of the shoulder is evaluating the movement of the scapula.
  • Bring all the imaging and blood work tests that have been done in relation to the clinical problem of the visit.
  • Before your consultation you can have X-Rays done to make the visit more efficient:
    Shoulder: true AP, axillary view, and scapular "Y" of the affected shoulder
    Hip: AP of the pelvis (standing), and of the affected hip: frog leg lateral, Dünn at 45º and false profile
    Knee: Patients under 40 years of age: AP, lateral and skyline patella with 30º of  flexion, of the affected knee. Patients over 40 years of age: AP, lateral, PA at 45º  of flexion (Rosenberg view) and skyline patella with 30º of flexionof both knees.

  • On the day of your surgery, follow the instructions on the admission sheet, considering that you need to be NPO (nothing by mouth) for 8 hours before your surgery.
  • In case you take pills for hypertension, hypothyroidism or another disease that is NOT diabetes or anticoagulation meds, take your pills with little sip off water in the morning, if you have any questions call me directly (4423456276).
  • You can take a bath the same day or the night before, avoid shaving the area surrounding the area to be operated on, do not apply any type of cream or ointment to the limb to be operated on.
  • Wear comfortable clothes.
  • Bring with you all your tests (X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, laboratories, etc.).

  • CALL ME (4423456276) in case of presenting: shortness of breath, fever (>38ºC), un-controlled pain, redness of the wound, wound discharge.
  • Call or write to the office to schedule your follow-up appointment 7 to 10 days after your surgery.
  • Take medications as indicated in the prescription.
  • The effect of the anesthetic block wears off over the next 8-12 hours, DO NOT wait for the pain to start to start taking the medication. It is expected that the first two-three days you will have more pain.
  • No diet restrictions.
  • Try to have the operated limb raised.
  • If your surgery was on your legs, use a plastic chair to take a bath.
  • Keep the wound clean and dry, if the dressing placed in the operating room have not come off, leave them in place until the consultation. If the dressing comes off or water got into them, you must remove them, clean the wound with water and neutral soap, dry well and cover again with a new dressing.
  • If you have a splint or fiberglass, cover with a bath bag.
  • Contact your physiotherapist to start the sessions.
  • If you smoke, quitting is highly recommended as it can have a direct effect on your recovery.
